Together with professionals from the Forest Institute named after V.N. Sukachev of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences the Company conducts field research at the sites in the Aznakaevsky, Zelenodolsky, Arsky and Laishevsky regions of Tatarstan.The Company is making the plantations productivity assessment and their ability to bind atmospheric carbon dioxide on the basis of the selected wood core samples.The biological method of CO2 capture can become one of the tools for TATNEFT Company’s carbon-neutral transition by 2050. Predictive models of greenhouse gas absorption for the period up to 2050 in potentially suitable areas will be prepared based on the field study results taking into account the initiatives that increase the absorption capacity of the forest.The plans for the future provide that the efforts aimed at developing a system for continuous monitoring of carbon farms, including using unmanned aerial vehicles and laser scanning of the earth s surface will be applied for tracking the dynamics of carbon sequestration by forest plantations.Reference InformationCarbon farms are land plots where the absorption of greenhouse gases increases due to the implementation of special measures.
